Lose 30lbs in 30 Days
I saw this on a sign around a week ago and it’s been in my head since I saw it. Even with performance enhancing drugs, 30lbs in 30 days would be quite the impressive feat.
There are a lot of issues with this one advertisement and I think we have accepted such claims when we shouldn’t.
Let’s say best case scenario, you lose 30lbs in 30 days. What is your plan day 31? How do you keep the weight off? You can only handle starvation and other extreme measures for a period of time.
Habits - This doesn’t change habits. Habits are how we get to our weight. We don’t gain 30lbs in 30 days, but it’s a culmination of habits, so why do expect to drop it in that amount of time? We need sustainable habits to lose weight and keep it off.
Failure- What happens if you lose 25lbs in 30 days? This will set us up to think we failed to achieve what others could following this plan. This can turn into a dangerous spiral.
Health - It’s not healthy to lose 30lbs in 30 days. It would be ok to lose that amount of weight over 30 weeks. That much of a shift is going to add significant stress on all of your body, which we don’t need.
While this ad might seem like the yellow brick road, in reality it’s a path to nowhere.
