Do you account for stress in your training?
Everything does come in waves, but not only training weights, we all experience different levels of stress at different times during the year.
Stress from work, relationships, change, nutrition changes, mental health, sleep issues, and the list goes on.
So do we just tough it out and train through times of high stress?
People will often say training is their way of dealing with stress and it can be, but it should be adjusted to properly help in coping with the stress and not adding to it.
If you neglect these signals of stress and continue to train in high intensities, you’re inviting injuries, I know from experience. Those nagging tweaks and aches not going away, there is usually a larger issue.
In times of high stress(every business owner has different times of “peak” stress), you’re body is working overtime mentally and physically. This makes recovery more difficult and means that all training at a high enough intensity will not be able to recover from.
During times of high stress, it would be wise to either lower training maxes/expectations, or to alter training focus. This would allow to still reap the benefit of exercise and movement, without further compounding an issue.
Training and life can be tough, don’t make it tougher
